Relive the emotions of Suzuki's 7
World Championships: from Barry Sheene to Joan Mir, a special and limited
series, the Legend Edition, with the liveries of the seven motorcycling legends
are reborn exclusively on the GSX-R1000R!
Alongside the special colours and
decals, each bike will also come complete with an Akrapovič exhaust and colour
coded seat cowl.
1976 - BARRY SHEENE
It is only a matter of a few years
before Barry Sheene begins to show his skills: in 1976 he obtained 5 victories
and a second place that earned him, in fact, the conquest of the first world
title.
Born in 1950, Barry Sheene made his debut in the world of competitive
motorcycling at the national level at the age of 18. In 1970 he made the great
leap in the world motorcycle scene, with a career start which saw him obtaining
good results albeit in a discontinuous way. Reaching the 500 class, it was only
a matter of a few years before the English rider began to show his skills on the
Suzuki RG 500. In 1976, in a championship consisting of 12 races, Sheene
obtained 5 victories and a second place. in fact, they are worth winning the
first world title.
A great achievement that brings Suzuki to the top of the world with the conquest
of the Constructors' title and 9 Suzuki bikes among the top 10 in the standings.
To celebrate Barry Sheene's first World Championship victory in premier class
with the livery that crowned him World Champion! GSX-R1000R, this version
features original 1976 colors and graphics as well as the number 7 on the front
fairing and fairings.
To celebrate Barry Sheene's first
World Championship victory in premier class this GSX-R1000R Legend ears the
colors of the famous Team Heron - Texaco with the English rider's unmistakable
number 7. The main colors are white and red, separated by a two-tone black and
yellow stripe, with the large S on the tank in yellow.
1977 - BARRY SHEENE
Still riding his faithful Suzuki RG
500, the English rider manages to take home 6 victories and a 2nd place that
allows him to be crowned World Champion for the second year in a row.
After winning his first world title in 1976, Barry Sheene has all the
credentials to replicate another winning season.
Suzuki also becomes Champion in the Constructors title for the second
consecutive year. In the top 10 positions in the standings there are no less
than 7 Suzukis.
Celebrating Barry Sheene's second World Championship wearing the 1977 livery of
his Suzuki RG 500 this GSX-R1000R Legend Edition, inspired by this bike, returns
in Team Heron-Texaco livery, but with large black Suzuki lettering, while yellow
gets more room on the fairing. The 7 is again in attendance as the eccentric
Sheene was the first prominent Continental Circus driver to keep a specific
number.
1981 - MARCO LUCCHINELLI
With a total of 5 first places and
two podiums, the "crazy horse" (Nicknamed "crazy horse" for his reckless style)
was crowned World Champion in 1981 in the 500 Class won for Team Gallina and
brought Suzuki back to the top of the standings, four years after the last
title.
Born in 1954, Marco Lucchinelli entered the hall of fame of the world
championship thanks to victories on the Suzuki RG 500. Very skilled in adapting
to new bikes and circuits, the charismatic Italian rider sets out to conquer the
World Championship in 1981.
Suzuki also continues to dominate the Constructors Championships with 5 bikes
placed in the top 10: with the riders' title comes the 6th consecutive success
for the Hamamatsu manufacturer.
The livery of Lucchinelli's Suzuki RG 500 relives on the GSX-R1000R Legend
Edition. The top and bottom part of the bike are dark blue, while white
dominates the central part. The other distinctive elements are the red accents,
the yellow number plate with the number 5 and the star that brought him good
luck.
1982 - FRANCO UNCINI
In 1982 the Gallina Team was again
able to take the RG500 to victory in the World Championship, this time with
Italian rider Franco Uncini and in other colors. The GSX-R1000R Legend Edition
which reproduces the look of that bike is now blue with a colorful band on the
fairing, tank and rear that goes from white and light blue to dark blue. This
time the number 13 is on the yellow plates.
For Suzuki there are 7 consecutive Constructors' titles. A constant domination
that enhances the performance of Suzuki bikes.
1993 - KEVIN SCHWANTZ
One of the most iconic and beloved
riders in the world motorcycle scene, Texan rider Kevin Schwantz became World
Champion in 1993, bringing the title back to Suzuki after more than a decade
since their last World Championship victory.
Dedicated to Kevin Schwantz, this GSX-R1000R Legend Edition reflects a glimpse
of the RGV500 with which he achieved World Champion success in 1993. The
color scheme is typical of the then-sponsor Lucky Strike, with white and red
large letters and military green and black as extras. Since it is not allowed to
use the original tobacco brand, the tub has been used entirely for the famous
number 34.
2000 - KENNY ROBERTS
Californian rider Kenny Roberts Jr
combined with a competitive and balanced bike was Suzuki’s final championship
rider in the 500cc class, with four wins and five podium appearances to his
name.
Born in 1973 and son of the American rider Kenny Roberts, he joined Suzuki in
the premier class in 1999.
Bright blue with the typical yellow checkered design is the livery of the sixth
GSX-R1000R Legend Edition. A wide yellow band outlines the contours, while
above the headlight and on the sides of the rear is Roberts' number 2, which
brought him to the races that season.
2020 - JOAN MIR
To celebrate the world championship won by Joan Mir, Suzuki Italia has decided
to create the seventh GSX-R1000R Legend Edition in the anniversary color of the
Ecstar Team GSX-RR, with number 1.
In this case in the blue and silver
colors commemorating the 60th anniversary of Suzuki's world championship debut
and the 100th anniversary of the brand's founding. This is framed with some
golden details, similar to the one with which the Majorcan rider celebrated his
title. This is a different color scheme than that of the 100th Anniversary
version that was presented in 2020.
