Making racing history

“Ballabio-Resinelli” is one of those names that are burned into the annals of motorcycle racing. The Ballabio is a true test of a bike’s speed and its rider’s prowess, a hillclimb around tortuous bends that bring out the true character of man and machine. To have any chance of winning, a machine must have bags of power at low revs, must be flickable and compact, and must have suspensions to match. This meeting of tradition and technology, an event that after 29 years has become part of motorcycling history, is one in which the machines of Mandello del Lario excel. To celebrate its victory in the Modern Open Class of the 2002 Ballabio uphill, the third race in the Italian Hillclimb Speed Championship, Moto Guzzi is giving this legendary name to a new model, the V11 Sport Ballabio.

he V11 Sport Ballabio is the maximum expression of all the qualities needed to excel on twisty mountain roads. The engine is the latest generation of Guzzi’s legendary transverse 90º V twin, with a balancer pipe between the exhaust collectors to ensure optimum exchange between the two cylinders and generate even more power at medium engine speeds. A high compression ratio (9.8:1) ensures impressive torque at low engine speeds. This performance is nevertheless achieved in full compliance with the latest Euro 2 emission standards. To protect and respect the environment, the V11 Sport Ballabio is fitted with a 3 way Lambda probe catalyser.

A sensitive front end with Marzocchi 43 mm upside down fork and adjustable rebound and preload makes light work of sudden direction changes and series of bends. The rear suspension comprises a Sachs monoshock with adjustable compression, rebound and spring preload and a die cast cantilever swinging arm in ultra-lightweight alloy. Suspension of this level ensures impeccable road holding and exceptional stability when powering out of bends. The rear suspension is also quick and easy to adjust to match a rider’s weight and riding style and road conditions.

Super-safe stopping power is also on tap from a braking system based on a powerful Ø 320 mm double disk unit at the front and a Ø 282 mm disk at the rear.

An upright riding position, far more natural than on most classic sports machines, is achieved by raised, double tapered, aluminium handlebars, tapering from 28 mm to 22 mm in diameter. These bars not only improve sports handling but also make the V11 Sport Ballabio relaxing to ride in city traffic, where its eye-catching colours cannot fail to attract admiration.

The bike is available in sporting “Rosso Race” or elegant “Grigio Resinelli”. Aerodynamic protection for the rider is provided by a nose fairing.

Italian creativity and motorcycling passion brings racing tradition and the latest technology together in this exceptional motorcycle, a machine that embodies the true spirit of Moto Guzzi. Moto Guzzi V11 Sport Ballabio. The latest V11 from Moto Guzzi, a marque that is unique in motorcycling history.
