The performance and fluidity of the new Testastretta 11° DS engine, the versatility of the three Riding Modes, the comfort of the adjustable seat and passenger handles make the Monster 1200 a bike that is capable of adapting to any occasion, so that you can follow your instincts in every situation. The unmistakeable Monster design is truly iconic and means there is no limit to your enjoyment.

Monster 1200 concept – Form and function

The performance and the fluidity of the new Testastretta 11 ° DS, the versatility of the three Riding Modes, and the comfort of the seat and adjustable passenger grab handles make the Monster 1200 the bike to accompany you on every occasion, and indulge your instincts in every situation . With the unmistakable design of an icon, Monster never limits the fun.

Monster design

All the elements that created the Monster legend are evident at a glance: a powerful “Monster-fly-line”, round headlight flanked by the forks, solid and sculptural metal fuel tank, and the authentic “less is more” style concept that gives the perception of being in front of an engine, a chassis, a tank, a saddle; and nothing more.

Despite increased dimensions that offer unprecedented performance and versatility, the character of a sportbike is immediately evident in the Monster’s proportions. The tail is sharp (with the decisive contribution of the low-mounted license plate holder), the mass is visually loaded at the front, and the engine area appears compact even with its new water cooling thanks to the expertly integrated oil cooler, radiator, and water hoses; the engine is coupled to an impressive side-mounted staggered shotgun exhaust that makes no secret of the bike’s performance.

The new Monster 1200 visibly communicates sophistication, modernity and substance via advanced technical solutions and premium materials: the traditional Ducati trellis frame evolves to use a racing derived solution with the motor as a stressed element; the full TFT dashboard and front and rear lights underline the bike’s orientation toward the future; and the sculptural metal fuel tank in pure “Monster-style” along with brushed metallic components further increase its premium position.
The rear view of the bike has been designed keeping in mind the possibility to easily fix dedicated side panniers, so that the mounting system is perfectly integrated with the bike’s style when panniers are removed.

Riding Mode

The new Monster incorporates the very latest innovative Ducati technologies, including the famous Ducati branded Riding Modes. The three Riding Modes (URBAN, TOURING, SPORT) are enabled by combining class-leading technologies such as: Ride-by-Wire (RbW), Ducati Traction Control (DTC), multi-calibration 9MP ABS and the graphics on the instrument panel. The rider can change the character of the bike by selecting from the left-hand switchgear – even while riding – among three different pre-set configurations (Riding Modes) that best adapt to the riding style or riding conditions. The Riding Modes make it possible to instantly modify the power delivered by the engine (RbW), the activation levels of DTC and ABS, and the graphics on the instrument panel.
The Riding Modes are factory pre-set in each of the three parameters, but can be individually customised and saved to suit the rider. A “default”option is available to easily return all settings to factory pre-sets.

Monster instinct

More than two decades on from the Monster’s first unveiling, Ducati now introduce the iconic model’s latest generation with the 2014 Monster 1200 and 1200 S powered by the formidable, Superbike-derived 1198 Testastretta 11° DS engine. The brand new flagship of the family presents an entirely new chassis and muscular styling designed with premium components fully integrated with Ducati’s latest technologies.

Evoking the exciting memories of past models such as the powerhouse S4R and S4RS, the Monster 1200 also boasts an exclusive S model with 145hp and a ride-enhancing 92ft-lb of high-accelerating torque, wrapped beautifully in a spec-impressive chassis that tips the scales at 182kg (401lb) dry weight.

High-spec brakes, suspension, single-sided swingarm and lightweight wheels combine with Ducati’s best-yet ergonomics to offer one of the most attractive Monster ever. Super comfortable and introducing an innovative adjustable seat height, the model also combines 8-level traction control, 3-level ABS and 3-level Ride-by-Wire into Ducati’s user-friendly, press-button Riding Modes.

The Monster 1200 and Monster 1200 S use next generation technologies to create an enhanced rider/motorcycle relationship, delivering a high-adrenaline experience while constantly reassuring with the feeling of complete control and ergonomic integration.

While the Monster 1200 is presented in Ducati red with red frame and black wheels, the Monster 1200 S offers Ducati red with red frame and glossy black wheels in addition to the striking scheme of white with bronze-coloured frame and glossy black wheels.

Introducing the Monster 1200 and Monster 1200 S

The Monster’s worldwide success and well-earned image as the unchallenged icon of naked motorcycles is the result of investing over 20 years of Ducati engineering, design and styling experience. It is an investment in time, constantly rewarded by being the motorcycle of choice for motorcycle connoisseurs and celebrities, from actors and musicians to Formula 1 drivers and top athletes.

The Monster has always been a statement on two wheels, an expression that created a cult following and, above all, a premium lifestyle motorcycle easily accessible to everyone.

The Monster 1200 and Monster 1200 S present the next generation of this famous family, combining genuine Monster tradition with Ducati’s latest technical solutions to engineer a modern and mature masterpiece. From the super-smooth refinement of the second generation Testastretta 11° DS engine and its Panigale-style direct attachment to the frame, to stunning and industry benchmark TFT instrumentation and best-ever ergonomics, this iconic motorcycle now mixes authentic sport character with lifestyle sophistication.

The Monster’s larger metal fuel tank presents an even more muscular image, emphasised by a narrow waistline and an incredibly compact headlamp that creates the overall silhouette of a powerful bull ready to charge. The clean and minimal handlebar area continues the naked icon’s essential character, while attention to detail like the tinted, transparent master cylinder reservoirs add a distinct quality to component finish.
