Press release issued By Aprilia:

In an era where superbikes are increasingly defined by electronics, aerodynamics, and exclusivity, Aprilia has unveiled one of its most intriguing creations yet: the 2027 RSV4 Obscure SPE.ED. Limited to just 500 individually numbered units worldwide, the Obscure SPE.ED transforms the already formidable RSV4 platform into a highly specialized machine that blurs the line between road-legal superbike and MotoGP-inspired race weapon.

Developed with direct input from Aprilia Racing, the Obscure SPE.ED combines advanced aerodynamic innovations, extensive carbon-fiber construction, reduced weight, and the legendary V4 engine that has made the RSV4 a benchmark in the superbike category for more than a decade.

Rather than chasing attention with flamboyant paint schemes, the Obscure SPE.ED embraces a stealthy, blacked-out design philosophy that emphasizes performance over spectacle. It is a motorcycle for riders who understand that true exclusivity often whispers rather than shouts.

A New Chapter in the RSV4 Legacy
The RSV4 has long been considered one of the most technically sophisticated superbikes ever built. Since its introduction, it has earned multiple World Superbike Championship titles and developed a reputation for combining race-winning performance with Italian character.

The Obscure SPE.ED sits at the very top of the RSV4 family tree. While previous limited-edition models such as the RSV4 X series focused exclusively on track riding, Aprilia wanted the Obscure to remain street legal while delivering a riding experience that feels remarkably close to a factory race machine.
The result is a motorcycle that can be ridden to the circuit, dominate a track day, and then legally return home on public roads.

Stealth-Inspired Design
The most obvious characteristic of the Obscure SPE.ED is its striking visual presentation.
Unlike many special editions that rely on bright racing graphics, the Obscure adopts an aggressive black-on-black appearance. Carbon-fiber components blend seamlessly into the machine's dark bodywork, creating a purposeful and intimidating presence.

Every angle of the motorcycle communicates performance. The low profile, sharp fairing lines, prominent winglets, and exposed carbon details give the bike the look of a prototype racer that somehow escaped the paddock and found its way to the street.

The understated aesthetic perfectly reflects the bike's name: "Obscure."

MotoGP-Inspired "Leg Wings"
Perhaps the most revolutionary feature of the Obscure SPE.ED is the introduction of carbon-fiber leg wings, a technology derived directly from Aprilia's RS-GP MotoGP machine.

These winglets are positioned behind the rider's legs and are designed to manage airflow around the lower section of the motorcycle. According to Aprilia, the system increases rear downforce by approximately 20 percent, leading to improved rear-tire grip and greater stability during acceleration.
Combined with the RSV4's existing aerodynamic wing package, the leg wings represent one of the most advanced aero implementations ever seen on a production superbike. The technology offers benefits not only in straight-line acceleration but also during high-speed cornering, where aerodynamic stability becomes increasingly important.

It is a clear example of MotoGP engineering making its way from the racetrack to the street.

Carbon Fiber Everywhere
Weight reduction played a major role in the development of the Obscure SPE.ED.

Aprilia replaced numerous standard components with lightweight carbon-fiber alternatives, including:
- Front and rear fenders
- Side panels
- Footrest guards
- Brake-cooling ducts
- Aerodynamic components
- Specialized bodywork elements

The highlight of the package is the set of BST carbon-fiber wheels, which are claimed to save more than 2 kilograms (4.4 pounds) compared to the forged aluminum wheels used on the RSV4 Factory.
Reducing rotational mass provides benefits far beyond simple weight savings. The motorcycle becomes more responsive during turn-in, accelerates harder, brakes more effectively, and feels considerably more agile throughout a circuit.

For serious riders, carbon wheels remain one of the most meaningful performance upgrades available.

The Mighty V4 Engine
At the heart of the Obscure SPE.ED remains Aprilia's celebrated 1,099cc 65-degree V4 engine.
The engine delivers a unique combination of characteristics. It has the high-revving nature of an inline-four while retaining much of the torque and personality associated with V-configured engines.

The soundtrack is equally distinctive. The RSV4's V4 has long been regarded as one of the most intoxicating engines in motorcycling, producing a mechanical symphony that few competitors can rival.
For riders seeking even greater performance, Aprilia offers an optional Aprilia Racing Technology (ART) full exhaust system featuring a carbon-fiber SC-Project silencer. Equipped with this system, output climbs to approximately 223 horsepower, while overall weight drops further.

Suspension Built for Purists
Interestingly, Aprilia chose not to equip the Obscure SPE.ED with the semi-active suspension found on the RSV4 Factory.

Instead, the motorcycle uses fully adjustable mechanical Öhlins NIX forks and an Öhlins TTX rear shock.

This decision reflects the bike's track-focused mission.

While semi-active systems provide convenience and adaptability, many experienced racers and advanced riders still prefer the consistency and precision of manually adjustable suspension. The traditional Öhlins package allows riders to fine-tune settings according to circuit conditions and personal preferences without intervention from electronic algorithms.

For serious track enthusiasts, that level of control is a major selling point.

Advanced Electronics Package
Like every modern flagship superbike, the Obscure SPE.ED features an extensive electronics suite.

Key technologies include:
- Six-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU)
- Ride-by-wire throttle
- Cornering ABS
- Multiple riding modes
- Traction control
- Wheelie control
- Launch control
- Aprilia Quick Shift
- Aprilia Performance Ride Control (APRC) package

A 5-inch TFT display serves as the bike's command center, while the standard Aprilia MIA connectivity system allows smartphone integration. The motorcycle also includes GPS functionality for lap-time recording and performance analysis.

These technologies ensure that riders can extract maximum performance while maintaining confidence at extreme speeds.

Weight and Performance
Thanks to its extensive carbon-fiber components and lightweight construction, the Obscure SPE.ED achieves a claimed ready-to-ride weight of approximately 201 kg (443 lb). With the optional racing exhaust system installed, the figure reportedly drops to around 196 kg (432 lb).

When paired with more than 220 horsepower, those numbers place the motorcycle among the most powerful and highest-performing road-legal superbikes currently available.

The resulting power-to-weight ratio is nothing short of extraordinary.
