The 'SP' stands for Sports Production, and the Mille SP is little more than a race bike for the road. Despite looking almost identical to the RSV Mille, nearly every part is different. The engine has a different bore and stroke, giving a smaller 996cc capacity, to allow higher revs, and there is only one spark plug per cylinder to allow bigger valves. The frame is unique to the SP, with adjustable engine position, Steering Head Angle and swingarm pivot, and 20 per cent stiffer.

The fairing is made of lightweight carbon-fibre, and the Öhlins suspension is fully adjustable. The SP was built as a 'homologation' machine, to allow the firm to race in the World Superbike championship. It was a limited-edition bike, with only 150 produced.
