Roland Sands Design Royal Enfield Reload 650

Roland Sands Design has once again shown why the Royal Enfield 650 platform is one of the most versatile canvases in motorcycling. Their latest creation, the Reload 650, takes the easy-going Shotgun 650 cruiser and turns it into a sleek, aggressive retro superbike with hot rod soul. Unveiled at the 2026 One Motorcycle Show in Portland, this one-off custom is the second collaboration between RSD and Royal Enfield, following their Super Meteor 650 Chopper from 2023.

The design story started at the tail. Roland Sands wanted to capture that classic 1980s AMA Superbike vibe — think endurance racers with clean, athletic lines. The custom tail unit stretches the bike visually, giving it a completely different stance and personality while keeping the overall look approachable. A black-and-gold color scheme, combined with ribbed finned details inspired by vintage hot rods, ties the whole machine together.

Key modifications include:
Suspension: Upgraded front and rear Öhlins units with piggyback reservoirs for sharper handling and a more planted feel.

Wheels: Signature RSD five-spoke wheels modeled after classic Morris rims, finished in striking gold — Sands’ favorite detail on the build.

Exhaust: A throaty S&S 2-into-1 race system that dramatically changes the bike’s profile and sound.

Controls: Custom RSD footpegs, shift lever, and bar risers with a wide, straight handlebar for a commanding yet comfortable riding position.

Details: A one-piece aluminum front fender mount that doubles as a structural brace, plus ribbed accents across engine components and bodywork.

The result is a bike that doesn’t just look the part — it’s built to ride. Sands emphasized that every part had to earn its place, developed in close collaboration with Royal Enfield’s engineering team. The focus was on creating functional, real-world parts rather than pure show pieces.

“This is just one iteration of an endless variety of ideas you could throw at this model,” Sands said. The straightforward 648cc parallel-twin engine and simple wiring on the 650 platform make it especially builder-friendly.

The Reload 650 proves the Royal Enfield 650 twin can go far beyond cruiser or bobber territory. It’s a masterclass in blending retro style, modern performance, and practical custom work Whether you’re a Royal Enfield owner looking for inspiration or just appreciate great custom builds, the Reload 650 is a serious reminder that this platform still has plenty left to give.
