KTM 1290 Super RC8 Custom Superbike |
| . |
KTM produced the RC 1190 from 2008 until 2015. KTM’s CEO Stefan Pierer announced the end of RC8 production in 2015. Claiming that 200+ horsepower motorcycles were too dangerous for public roads.
Garage builder Daan (@99999Daan), from Holland took on the challenge to build this 1290 Super RC8, which was a 16 month buiding project.
This is motorcycle engineering of the highest level!!

This is his third KTM bike he built by himself after a supermoto KTM SMC-R 690 and a super naked KTM 1290 Super Duke R Special Edition, and Daan said: "This is my biggest project ever."
He challenged himself and KTM by fitting a 2018 KTM 1290 Super Duke R engine in to a 1190 RC8 frame, mating KTM’s latest engineering and electronics suite to the RC8’s incredibly responsive chassis.
He had to reconfigure the larger 1290 Super Duke R engine and the numerous components to fit into a 1190 RC8 frame which is meant for a smaller engine.

"There's one software package available and that's KTM original diagnostic. Had a lot of work to get everything working in the software, only flash the latest update into the motor management ECU. Unfortunately, it's not an open-source software from KTM. It takes a lot of time to figure things out and make moulds for various parts,” said Daan.
All the latest electronics of the 1290 Super Duke R was fitted, such as:
- Ride by Wire
- Cornering ABS
- Cruise control
- Angle sensitive traction control
- KTM up & down quickshifter +
- Tyre pressure monitoring system
- KTM performance pack
- KTM launch control
- KTM track pack with supermoto ABS mode which lets the rear wheel slide and MSR
(motor slip regulation)

Other features include:
- A redesigned LED headlight
- New aluminum triple clamp, using CAD software, to accept the 1290’s larger
48mm WP USD fork tubes
- Extended the steering lock
- Single-sided swingarm repurposed from a Ducati Monster 696
- Newly designed the decals and made a shift lever
- Superduke fork and wheels
- Ducati Monster 696 brake callipers and brake hoses
- Heated grips
- And parts from other bikes:
- Duke 690 R
- SMC-R 690
- Adventure 1290 R
- 1190 RC8R
- Super Duke 1290 R
- Duke 790
- Ducati Monster 696
- Adventure 790
- And custom made parts
