BMW R nineT R7 Nmoto Nostalgia by NMoto

The BMW R7 of the 1930s, of which the designer is unknown, never saw production.  It was stored away until in 2005, Hans Keckeisen started restoration and reconstruction of the 1934 R7, and was unveiled at Pebble Beach in 2012.

 

Alex Niznik founder of Nmoto, which is based in Florida USA, designed and developed a limited production, the Nmoto Nostalgia inspired by the R7, to capture that same innovation and breathe new life into a vintage design.

 

NMoto used a stock BMW R nineT, and according to Alex, no changes or modifications were done to the powertrain.

 

All parts are bolt-on, and they used original points to fasten the body to the frame.  For the rear fender, they created a special rod, as the stock rear fender on the R nineT is connected to the four-position adjustable seat (standard 31-inch seat height).  Only the rear subframe was modified as it was on BMW R7.

 

The R7 was a hardtail motorcycle, while the Nmoto Nostalgia has a rear suspension - an entirely acceptable compromise when building a motorcycle that is meant to be ridden, as well as admired.

 

The Nostalgia consists of 96 handcrafted pieces. That includes about 74 parts built by Nmoto, including a new gas tank, throttle system, fenders mounts, brackets, and wires.
Each Nostalgia motorcycle has its own hand-built aluminum body, within which is a 12-litre fuel tank.  All the electrics were integrated into the bike’s framework with retro switchgear.

 

 

Just like the R7 pre-war prototype, the steering mechanisms as well as the clocks are integrated into the headlight nacelle.

 

Modern features such as traction control, ABS, and keyless ignition are carried over from the R nineT.  The airbox has been removed and replaced with a pair of individual filters, while the exhaust is now a custom 2 into 2 with a pair of art deco fishtails.

 

Niznik describes Nostalgia’s riding position as “more of a café racer” than the standard R nineT’s upright ergonomics. Top speed is a claimed 140 mph, and as a bonus of the re-imagining of the R nineT, Nmoto claims that Nostalgia is 37 pounds lighter than the R nineT.

 

Alex Niznik said: "In creating the Nostalgia motorcycle, we wanted to pay proper homage and respect to our inspiration. We also wanted something that was more than a collectable. The Nostalgia was designed to be a motorcycle you can actually ride comfortably on a daily basis."
