The California EV is the latest interpretation of the
long-running California series. Refined, with improved build quality and
finish, it is essentially the same as the previous models. The air-cooled
transverse V-twin engine has a torquey power delivery, but is weak at the
top-end. The design's longitudinal crank allows a simple path to the final
shaft drive, reducing power losses. There are two versions of the EV: the
basic model, with chromed engine bars and cruiser-style cissy bar and
pullback handlebars, and a touring version, which has a large windshield.
Moto Guzzi released a special version of its California in 2001 to celebrate
the firm's 80th anniversary. This California EV 80 is fitted with exclusive
leather saddlebags, seat and bar grips.
