Like its larger 900cc sibling, the Monster 600 found itself lacking in terms of power against new late-1990s competition. Suzuki's SV650 and Cagiva's Raptor 650 are both much more powerful than the elderly 583cc Ducati design, and the mini-Monster needed an update. The 620ie was DucaB's response. A larger stroke crankshaft increased capacity by 35cc, and a new fuel-injection system replaced the 600's carburettors, improving power delivery and cutting emissions. Ducati also upgraded he rest of the bike with twin front brake discs and improved dash and electrics. An 'S' version of the 620ie is also available, with aluminium swingarm, small headlight fairing, ride-height-adjustable rear shock and carbon-fibre body panels.

Throughout the 1990’s, the Ducati Monster dominated the motorcycling scene, propelling it into the new millennium as the universally acknowledged benchmark in its class.

Styling and performance make for a unique personality, one that is mean yet captivating and calls out to the hearts of a diverse audience, from novice riders to female motorcyclists to those who just love aggressive sport riding in a comfortable, upright riding position.

For M.Y. 2002, the Monster family has been updated and refined in terms of technology, styling and graphics. These updates further reinforce the Monster’s original mission statement and highlight its proven ability to easily withstand the test of time.

Presenting the third generation of the Monster family, and our newest member, the exciting 620 i.e.. True to the original Monster formula of innovation, we’ve added a list of new features. The larger, more powerful engine shares the latest frame and running gear with the incredible Monster S4 and ensures that you remain confidently in control. The new 620 i.e. engine adds more power, durability and fun to the Monster experience.
Fuel injection combines with the simplicity of the Ducati air cooled Desmo L-Twin engine to make the 620 i.e. easy to live with, and easy to ride. Moreover, all 2002 Monsters have been advanced with our renowned Superbike-derived frame. Even the view from the cockpit is all-new, with electronic gauges and an anti-theft device as standard equipment. The Monster 620 i.e. is the lightest and most easy handling Ducati. With a low seat height and classic tubular handlebars that are slightly raised, the 620 i.e. rewards you with a relaxed and confidence-inspiring ride.
