Bad Weather Bikes

Sure, most motorcycles look good bone-stock fresh of the showroom floor, but how do you let the world know it’s your bike? Sportbike customizing is the new scrapbooking, with custom repli-racers showing up at shows, rallies and even on television. Our custom ’Busa gallery was well-received, so we poked around the web to find some Buell enthusiasts who went a little farther than your usual pipe ’n’ carbon-fiber to make the Buells they really wanted.

The most enthusiastic response was from the folks over at Bad-Weather Bikers. The message boards there cover every Buell model, from the tube-framed early models to the hot new 1125R. Monthly visits have broached 240,000 from 91 countries (although we wonder how many Buell owners there could possibly be in Nepal).

One notable aspect is the relatively young age of some of these guys. Usually, Harley enthusiasts tend to be a bit older—usually in the AARP range—but we received many responses from guys in their late 20s and early 30s. Spring chickens! On Wisconsin iron!
